Chipotle shuts down its Mexican-themed cookie bars

Posted September 15, 2018 09:10:12The burrito chain Chipotle is shutting down its cookie bars, as its Mexican food empire has suffered from a series of high-profile food scares.

Chipotle announced it would shutter the cookie bars after nearly a year, saying the company had made a number of changes to its cookie product that would help customers make healthier choices.

The company will now only sell one protein bar per person.

Chipotle’s burritos are the only snack food sold in its Mexican locations, but it has been working on a variety of other flavors and textures for years.

The chain said in January that it would also discontinue a line of burrito bowls.

A spokesman for Chipotle said in a statement the company has been making changes in its cookie business since last fall.

“It is disappointing to say that we have made some changes to the way we make cookies, which resulted in fewer cookies being served,” Chipotle spokesman Mark Boulton said.

The cookie company has faced criticism for its cookie sales.

Chipotas own franchisees have filed a lawsuit against the company, saying it is misleading customers about its cookie offerings.
